And Help Us Grow!

Young Israel of West Rogers Park wishes members and friends a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Purim Sameach!

This Shabbat we will read Parshat Zachor, the second of the special four Parshiot leading up to Purim and Pesach.  The reading of the maftir this Shabbat is considered to be the fulfillment of the mitzvah to remember Amalek.  To learn more,  see

The Fast of Esther (Ta’anit Esther) is marked on Wednesday, starting at dawn (alot hashachar), 5:42am. Purim starts on Wednesday evening and continues on Thursday.  To learn more, see The day after Purim (Friday) is Shushan Purim, when Purim is marked in Jerusalem.

The unveiling for Dr. Richard Chasman will take place this Sunday, March 17, at 2:00pm at Waldheim Cemetery. Enter at the Roosevelt and Des Plaines gate; signs will be posted there with directions to Dr. Chasman's grave.

Safety at Shul
At this time of heightened concern about the safety of Jews throughout the country, Young Israel of West Rogers Park has introduced a locked-door policy, which went into effect following the massacre in Pittsburgh. The Shul will make every effort to position a volunteer by the front door to safely welcome friends and members to our davening, classes, meetings, and other programs.  If you come to Shul at one of these times and see that a greeter is not present, please knock for entry.  Thanks for your understanding.

If you would like to sponsor a Kiddush, Seudah Shelishit, or other shul program, please send an email to

Shiurim (classes)

Unless otherwise specified, shiurim and classes take place in the Arthur & Sally Dordek Library at Young Israel. All are welcome to participate in any of the shiurim.

  • The Navi (Prophets) shiur, which is currently learning the book of Shoftim/Judges, will meet on Wednesday evening at 8:30pm.  All are welcome.  Learning is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Richard Chasman, z"l.  For more information, please speak with Robbin Katzin.
