Young Israel of West Rogers Park wishes its members and friends a Shabbat Shalom.

This Shabbat is the third of the the Four Parshiot leading up to Passover. For more information about Shabbat Parah (The Red Cow), see here. This Shabbat is also Shabbat Mevarchim, announcing the arrival of the month of Nisan.

Please remember to turn your clocks forward one hour for Daylight Savings Time this Saturday night.  

The Shul extends condolences to the Herzfeld family on the passing of Robert’s mother, Mrs. Magda Herzfeld, Sarah bat Aharon veChayah a”h. May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Israel.

Kiddush, Simchas and Events

Kiddush is sponsored by Hillorie Morrison to commemorate the yahrzeits of her paternal grandfather, Harry Salomon (Zvi ben Shlomo Yosef) on 19 Adar II and of her mother, Ellen Salomon (Esther bat Shlomo) on 22 Adar.

The Governing Board of Young Israel of West Rogers Park will meet on Sunday, March 11 (postponed from last week) at 9:15-10:30am. Members and associate members in good standing are welcome to come.

Shiurim (classes)

Unless otherwise specified, shiurim and classes take place in the Arthur & Sally Dordek Library at Young Israel. All are welcome to participate in any of the shiurim.

  • Rabbi Prero's shiur on Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik's sefer, Al Hateshuva, On Repentence, will meet on Monday, March 12, at 8:15pm.

  • The Navi (Prophets) shiur will meet on Wednesday, March 14, at 8:30pm. The class is currently learning the book of Yehoshua (Joshua). Participants may use the Judaica Press (English) edition or the Mossad HaRav Kook (Hebrew) edition. For more information, please speak with Dr. Richard Chasman or Robbin Katzin.

Community Announcements

Nefesh B'Nefesh Lone Soldiers Program presents a Parent's Night for Future and Current Lone Soldier Parents on Wednesday, March 14 at 8:00pm at the home of Adina & Kevin Greenberg, 2753 W Chase Avenue, Chicago.

There is an AA meeting at YIWRP every Tuesday from 7:30-8:30pm. it is a beginners meeting and open to those interested in recovering from alcholism.
